Frequently Asked Questions | Q: Are your hair extensions human hair, or are they synthetic? A: My hair extensions are 100% premium-quality human hair.
Q: How long is the hair? A: The length of the hair is 18".
Q: Can the extensions be washed? A: Yes, they can be washed. However, some of the more vibrant shades, especially red-based pigments, can fade fast with excessive washing. Some of my really vibrant fashion shades, like teal and cotton candy pink, are by Manic Panic and Beyond The Zone, and therefore are semi-permanent. My extensions are clip-in, so you can take them out at night, and will not have to wash them as often as you would permanently-attached extensions.
Q: How do you attach the extensions? A: All extensions come pre-attached to extension snap-clips, unless specified as "track only" extensions. Attaching them is quick and easy: 1. Part your hair where you are going to attach the extension. 2. With a fine-toothed comb, tease the hair close to the scalp to form a small snarl of hair. 3. Spray the snarl with a medium to firm-hold spritz. 4. Clip the extension behind the snarl, close to the scalp, and snap the clip closed. Your extensions should stay put all day.
Q. How do you care for the extensions? A. Your extensions may be washed with a gentle cleansing shampoo that doesn't contain oil. To keep the color on the extensions vibrant, its preferred that you use a color-protecting shampoo. Dampen the extensions with COLD water (cold water will keep the color from running and staining the blonde portions of the hair, especially with striped extensions) and make a lather of shampoo in your hands. Gently work the shampoo lather down the extension, starting at where the extension is sewn to the clip, and working your way down to the ends. Don't scrub like you would with your normal hair. Rinse well in cold water. You may use a light conditioner (that doesn't contain oil) if you wish. Gently blot with a towel, then spray in a light detangling conditioner (again, nothing that has oil in it) and gently detangle with a wide-tooth comb. Make sure comb clips are snapped open, and try to dry them with a towel as much as possible so they don't rust. Lie extensions flat to dry. You may use a blow dryer to dry them faster if you wish, but make sure you use a heat-protecting spray (just a squirt or two - any more and they will be greasy when they're dry) and dry on a medium or low heat setting. Try to avoid blow drying as much as possible. When the extensions are dry, gently brush to remove any remaining knots. At this point, your extensions may have kinked up a bit, so use a flat iron (again, set on a low to medium heat setting). Only run the iron down the extension 3-4 times. Use more heat-protecting spray before ironing if you need it.
Q. Can you swim with the extensions in? A. Its not impossible, but preferrably NOT. Chlorine and sunlight will badly fade the color. If you must swim, either put hair up in a swim cap, or dampen with tap water first, and then spray in a leave-in conditioner specially made for swimmers (Sally Beauty Supply sells a really good one made by Ion).
Q. Can you re-dye the extensions? A. In most cases, no, but if you've got a set of extensions that has blonde stripes, the blonde part may be dyed. Also, if the semi-permanent colors (like cotton candy pink and teal) start to fade, you can layer the same color over it to refresh the color.
Q. Will the extensions stain my real hair? A. In most cases, no, but sometimes if you've been coloring your natural hair, or your natural hair color is a lighter shade of blonde, the hair color from the extensions can grab and stain your hair when you wash them. To avoid this, don't shower with them in, if you have clip-ins. If your extensions are glued, sewn, or permanently attached in some other way, wash the extensions in cold water - as cold as you can stand it - to avoid bleeding.
